What makes "West Country Racing" special? Unlike some racing syndicates, we are offering a true ownership scheme. We will be providing dedicated racing managers. They will always be contactable to find out the latest news or to arrange a visit to the yard. If there is anything urgent that needs to be conveyed to our owners, we will personally call you to let you know what is going on. Unlike other ownership schemes, we always put personal contact and excellent service at the top of our priority list.
Why are we called "West Country Racing"? We are here to provide a local service to West Country racing enthusiasts. We are all based around the Bath/Bristol area, meaning we are never far from our clients. Having our trainer located locally, also means that we have easy access to our horses any time we want to see them.
What if I don’t live in the West Country? We welcome enquiries from anyone who shares an interest in the Sport of Kings, wherever they may be.
When can I join West Country Racing? The sooner you join the better. The partnerships are ongoing, but the sooner you join the more you will discover about the way a horse is trained. If you are with us at the start of a yearling partnership you will go through the process of buying, breaking and training a horse for racing. This will give any racing enthusiast a real insight into the education and development of a racehorse.
How do I join? Please give us a call. We can arrange for potential owners to meet the horses and get a feel for what West Country Racing partnerships can offer.
Am I committed to stay with West Country Racing for a certain period of time? The partnership terms vary. For horses bought as yearlings this is usually a 2-year term (the 2 and 3 year old seasons) this enables owners to see the horse through breaking, the first race and hopefully into the beginning of a successful career. Most other syndicates will operate to the appropriate racing season of the horse. We ask people to commit to the whole period to enable us to keep the stability of the syndicate and to build a close ownership group.
Will we make money out of the syndicate? It's possible. However, when you put money into racehorses, you should view it as a hobby, rather than a financial investment. Although, you will have a great time, statistics show that 70% of racehorses never win a race. I can guarantee that if we don't win anything, we'll have a good time trying.
What about gambling tips? We are an ownership scheme, we do not offer betting or gambling tips. You may pick up some useful information on your stable visits but this is just a bonus.
Are there any hidden or extra costs? No, all costs are covered by your initial payment and the monthly subscription charge. We guarantee we will never ask for any more money.
How do I know where the money has gone? To ensure transparency, audited accounts will be provided to owners at the conclusion of each partnership. This will enable owners to see expenditure and income (prize money, sponsorship, bloodstock proceeds etc). Surplus funds will be distributed at the conclusion of each partnership on a pro-rata basis.
What is the Legal structure of the partnership? Each Partnership is registered with the British Horseracing Board and operates within their guidelines. The number of shares available in each partnership varies. For all partnerships the two nominated partners will be representatives of West Country Racing. All other owners will be registered with the BHB as standard partners.
Is there a contract? All owners will sign a partnership agreement outlining their benefits and our responsibilities. These have been drawn up by an industry specialist and are available for inspection on request.
What about decision making? Significant decisions affecting a partnership will be discussed with all owners and their views taken into account. Where appropriate actions will reflect the majority view.
